Hoofing for Hope

In our fashion, we will be raising awareness for our federal correctional officers mental health wellness by riding our horses from institution to institution in Alberta!
We’re kicking off this incredible journey in the stunning Grande Cache. With the support of their dedicated RCMP members, we’ll ride through town, down the Main Street, and right into the front yard of Grande Cache Institution. We’ll spend several hours there, allowing staff and officers to connect with the horses, ask questions, and engage in conversations that will strengthen our correctional family and raise awareness about the importance of mental health discussions.
We then head home to Edmonton (we haul the horses over the long distances due to time constraints) to overnight in our own beds.
Next up, we’ll visit the incredibly supportive Edmonton Institution for Women, where we’ve had the pleasure of bringing the horses before. The welcome we received was unparalleled, and we’re excited to return!
Following another night at home, we head to Grierson Institution in downtown Edmonton. This one will test my patience as we navigate through traffic, but there’s no doubt we’ll make it happen! Grierson’s long-serving officers are in for something special—this will be a new experience for them.
Next we move on to Drumheller Institution. We will haul the distance down there, riding into the institution to continue fostering relationships with our correctional family through positive interactions with the horses.
From this point on, we are in the saddle till we hit Edmonton!
From Drumheller we spend the next 6 days heading north to the picturesque Bowden Institution. I am super excited to catch up with old friends while we are there.
With visits and friendships renewed we continue on to Pe Sakastew minimum security, a first time visit for us, and one that promises valuable new experiences and lessons.
Finally, we’ll make our way to the outskirts of Leduc, where we’ll spend one last night before riding into Edmonton Institution, our home site, to complete this epic journey. With our arrival at El our trip will be complete with the following:
